Placenta-Based Treatment May Speed Erectile Recovery After Prostate Surgery, Early Studies Suggest
Prostate cancer surgery can affect the nerves responsible for erections, leaving some men with erectile dysfunction even after the tumour has been removed. Researchers are studying whether thin sheets of donated, dehydrated placental tissue placed around exposed nerves during surgery can support healing and reduce inflammation. Early studies suggest some patients may regain erectile function sooner. However, the evidence is still developing. Faster early recovery does not prove that the treatment restores normal sexual function for every patient, and researchers must still assess its long-term benefits, risks and cost.
