Ondo Air Crash: Navy and NSIB Divers Recover Aircraft Parts for Investigation
The Nigerian Air Force says specialist divers from the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau have recovered aircraft components from the site of the ATR 42-500 crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State. The divers are continuing underwater search and recovery operations. The materials recovered will be documented and preserved as evidence for the investigation. The aircraft, registered as NAF 931, crashed on October 5 with 25 people on board, including five crew members and 20 passengers. The crash claimed all 25 lives. A 12-member investigation board has been set up to establish the cause of the crash and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence. The Senate has also called for a transparent probe and improved funding for aircraft maintenance and replacement.
