Five Electrocuted, Three Burned as Truck Snags High-Tension Cable in Niger State
At around 7am on Monday, April 20, a truck carrying goods and passengers from Zaria to Lagos in Essa village, Katcha Local Government Area, Niger State, came into contact with a loose high-tension cable. Five travellers were electrocuted instantly and three others suffered severe burns. A local resident told Daily Trust that heavy vehicles often run into the same hanging wire when dodging potholes. Both the deceased and the injured were taken to the police station in Badeggi, where their mobile phones were used to alert relatives. Residents are urging the federal government to repair the road and secure the power line to prevent further loss of life.
