Kara Bridge Repairs Begin July 28, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Drivers Warned of Delays

Kara Bridge Repairs Begin July 28, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Drivers Warned of Delays

Motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway should prepare for delays as repairs begin on the Kara Bridge on Tuesday, July 28. The Federal Ministry of Works will replace the bridge’s expansion joint during the two-week maintenance period. A 1.5-kilometre stretch of the four-lane carriageway will be reduced to two lanes while work is ongoing. Traffic is expected to build up around Fatgbems Turn, particularly during peak periods, as motorists seek alternative routes or attempt U-turns. Traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the turn is expected to face less disruption. Drivers are advised to leave early, consider alternative routes, obey traffic signs and cooperate with traffic officials deployed along the corridor.

Replacing the expansion joint sounds necessary, but a 1.5-kilometre work stretch can still make daily trips stressful for motorists.

The warning is useful, though motorists may need more than a general delay notice once repairs begin on July 28.

Anyone using that route should allow extra travel time and check their departure plans while the Kara Bridge work lasts.
