Paid Your Fees Before NELFUND Disbursed? Your School May Owe You a Refund

If you paid your school fees before your NELFUND institutional loan was disbursed for the same session, your school may owe you a refund. NELFUND sends institutional fees directly to schools, while only the upkeep allowance is paid into students’ accounts. NELFUND said in a June 2026 public notice that some institutions were refusing or delaying refunds for students who had already paid their fees before loan disbursement. Confirm that you paid the fees, that NELFUND disbursed an institutional-fee loan for the same session, and that the school has not formally refunded or credited the payment to another session. Check your NELFUND dashboard and school portal. Take your receipt, bank statement, NELFUND disbursement record and portal fee page to the bursary or finance office. Submit a written refund request to the Bursar and keep a stamped copy. If the school delays, involve your student union welfare officer and report the issue to NELFUND. Do not pay agents or share your school portal login. The official refund process should be free.
