Kunle Afolayan Says He Has Spent Over ₦8 Billion Building His Film Village

Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan says he has spent more than ₦8 billion of his personal funds developing his film village, despite receiving no government support. He recalled that during the production of Aníkúlápò, the cast and crew lacked accommodation and had to squat in people’s homes. The experience, he said, pushed him to build 100 rooms at the facility. Afolayan also highlighted the cost of running the village without reliable public electricity. He said he has spent heavily on diesel and about ₦200 million on solar power, yet the energy supply still falls short.
