Lagos to Begin Controlled Demolition of Distressed 25-Storey GNI House on Thursday
The Lagos State Government will begin the controlled demolition of the structurally distressed Great Nigeria Insurance House on Lagos Island on Thursday, October 15, 2026. LASEMA said assessments by relevant agencies found that the 25-storey building poses a major risk to public safety. The operation is intended to protect nearby residents, businesses, motorists and properties. The immediate area will be cordoned off, with access restricted during the demolition. Temporary traffic diversions will also be introduced on adjoining streets. Residents, traders and motorists have been advised to avoid the area where possible, follow diversion signs and cooperate with emergency and traffic officials. Authorities warned that the exercise may cause temporary noise and dust.
