Can Microfinance Banks Unlock Financial Inclusion in Nigeria?
I read a Nigerian business story about Frank Esemudje’s career and its link to financial inclusion. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Benin and spent over 15 years at a leading commercial bank. He witnessed how formal banks often exclude small entrepreneurs. He then built ventures in manufacturing, food production, logistics and downstream oil. These successes deepened his understanding of local markets and supply chains. In 2023, he founded Revelation Microfinance Bank to serve SMEs and grassroots traders in the South-South region. The bank now serves more than 20,000 customers and has processed nearly one million transactions. Do you think microfinance banks can bridge the gap for small businesses in Nigeria? Have you ever borrowed from one, and what did you learn?
