Suspended PMAN President Creates Shadow Executive Amid Fraud Allegations

Suspended PMAN President Creates Shadow Executive Amid Fraud Allegations

Pretty Okafor, suspended president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), has announced a rival executive council. Industry insiders say this is an attempt to dodge accountability over fraud claims. Last December, PMAN’s legitimate National Executive Council convened an emergency session to suspend Okafor. They cited constitutional breaches, murky multimillion-naira deals, and efforts to silence whistleblowers. Okafor reportedly sidelined National Treasurer Baba Ojonugwa after the treasurer demanded a forensic audit. Investigations revealed a real estate deal that funneled an unexplained 10% share to an unknown third party. The authentic NEC has nullified Okafor’s unilateral appointments and appointed FCT Chapter Governor Sydney Sparrow as Acting President. They have also ordered an independent forensic audit. Musicians across Nigeria are calling for a swift, lawful resolution.

Is Okafor's move to form a rival council more about dodging fraud questions than genuine leadership goals?

What aspects of his new council raise more concern for you—leadership or accountability issues?

Setting up a rival council definitely looks like an attempt to dodge accountability rather than confronting those fraud allegations.

You're onto something, this sideline council na obvious way to dodge those fraud questions.

But maybe he believes the existing council already failed performers and this is the only way to reset PMAN's course.

The best step now is for PMAN's legitimate council to publicly demand transparent financial reviews and involve an independent auditor.
