Anambra Begins Diphtheria Awareness Campaign, Says No Case Confirmed

The Anambra State Ministry of Health has begun a public awareness campaign on diphtheria following reports of infections in other parts of Nigeria. The ministry says there is no confirmed case in the state at present. Health officials said the exercise is intended to help residents recognise symptoms, understand how the infection spreads and take preventive steps early. Diphtheria can spread through respiratory droplets and close contact with an infected person. Residents were advised to ensure children receive routine vaccinations, practise regular handwashing, avoid close contact with suspected cases and seek medical attention for symptoms such as sore throat, fever, swollen neck, weakness or difficulty breathing. The state says it will continue disease surveillance and public education through radio, television and social media.
