I Realised My Marriage Was a Mistake Days After Our Wedding
I married at 24 believing I was building the peaceful, loving home I saw in my parents’ marriage. But I had doubts before the wedding, and pressure from both families, plus my desire to ease my widowed mother’s burden, made me ignore them. Days after the wedding, I discovered my husband had a substance addiction that he and his family had hidden from me. His behaviour became worse, leaving me scared to go home, emotionally drained and dealing with abuse in a marriage that lasted less than three months. I have since left the marriage and begun divorce proceedings. I am still healing, but I am learning to forgive myself, choose my peace and remember that marriage should never be entered out of pressure or responsibility to others.
