Team Nigeria Wins 10 Gold Medals at Glasgow 2026 Despite Reduced Sports Programme

Team Nigeria has won 10 gold medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, despite competing in a programme reduced to 10 sports. National Sports Commission Performance Director and Athletes Liaison Victor Okorie said the result reflects the athletes’ determination, strategic preparation and improved support for high-performance sports. Okorie noted that Nigeria won 12 gold medals at previous editions that featured about 19 to 20 sports. He described the Glasgow campaign as a major achievement, given the reduced medal opportunities available to the team.
