Power Minister Tegbe Warns Electricity Woes Won’t End Overnight, Highlights Early Wins

Power Minister Tegbe Warns Electricity Woes Won’t End Overnight, Highlights Early Wins

Newly appointed Power Minister Joseph Tegbe says Nigeria’s decades-long electricity challenges can’t be solved in a matter of weeks or months. He urged Nigerians to be patient as the government rolls out phased reforms across generation, transmission and distribution. Tegbe noted early progress, including reactivating the 450MW Alaoji power plant and new transmission lines in Abuja, Oyo and Ogun States. He also highlighted a recent NERC order forcing distribution companies to compensate customers for outages as proof of stronger consumer protections. The minister says his team has lined up funding partners and industry stakeholders behind a clear plan for execution and accountability. “I will not promise what I cannot deliver, but I promise visible improvement as you have been seeing,” he said, pledging ongoing updates as reforms take hold under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
