Retired Major General Abubakar Rabe Dies in Bandit Captivity

Retired Major General Abubakar Rabe was abducted with his wife near Matazu in Katsina State two weeks ago while traveling to a wedding. A video circulated by his captors showed the couple standing side by side as they relayed demands for the release of detained bandits. The general’s wife identified three suspects held in Jikamshi and Kano and appealed to state authorities and local leaders to secure their freedom. In the footage, the retired officer also urged dialogue and peaceful coexistence. On Saturday, the Katsina State Government confirmed that the general died in captivity from complications of diabetes and hypertension. The governor described his passing as a “dark moment” and called for a united front against criminal gangs. It remains unclear whether his wife has been released.
