70-Year-Old British Tourist Falls Into Shallow Koi Pond at Lanzarote Hotel
A 70-year-old British holidaymaker was rushed to hospital after losing his balance and plunging from the second floor of a five-star Lanzarote hotel in Playa Blanca. He landed in a knee-deep koi carp and terrapin pond about 15 inches deep beneath a buffet terrace. Firefighters and medical teams arrived quickly, fitted him with a neck brace and lifted him out on a rescue board before transferring him to a waiting ambulance. The tourist was taken to Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife. Local police and Civil Guard officers also responded. The hotel has declined to comment, citing guest confidentiality, and authorities say the fall is being treated as an accident.
