Shehu Sani Mourns El-Rufai’s Mother

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has extended his condolences to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on the passing of his mother. In a statement on Saturday, Sani described her death as a deep loss to the family, to Kaduna State and to the nation. He lauded her life of service and community leadership. Sani prayed for Allah’s mercy on her soul and for comfort for El-Rufai and his family. He asked that she be granted Aljannatul Firdaus and her shortcomings forgiven. He also recalled that she had lost her son Ibrahim Iro El-Rufai in a 2014 accident. He concluded with “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” affirming faith in Allah.

Noting his choice of words, Shehu Sani framed her passing as a collective loss; it feels like a political statement as much as sincere mourning.

I respect the gesture, but these public condolences risk becoming political theatre instead of genuine comfort for those grieving.

Beyond words, state officials might offer tangible support like counseling or financial aid to families coping with loss in Kaduna communities.
