Why Indoor Plants Become Tall, Thin and Leggy — and How to Fix Them
Indoor plants can become tall, thin and uneven when they do not receive enough light. Their stems stretch towards the nearest window, while leaves grow farther apart. Adding more water or fertiliser will not solve a lighting problem. Start by moving the plant to a brighter spot that suits its species. Rotate the pot regularly, avoid overfeeding, and check that the roots and watering routine are healthy. A suitable grow light may also help where natural light is limited. Pruning above healthy nodes can encourage bushier growth in some plants, but identify the plant first. Cutting the growing tip of a palm, for example, can permanently damage that stem. If your plant becomes leggy, would you improve its lighting before pruning, or prune first? Share what has worked for your indoor plants.
