Ogun Urges Residents to Plant and Nurture Trees as Climate Risks Grow
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged residents to treat tree planting as a shared duty in tackling climate change and protecting the environment. At the 2026 Ogun Tree Planting Day in Abeokuta, represented by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, he said rising temperatures, flooding, prolonged dry seasons, land degradation and biodiversity loss require urgent collective action. The state said it is supporting afforestation, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, green infrastructure, waste management and flood-control efforts. Officials also said all six forest reserves previously described as moribund have been revived. Residents, schools, businesses and community leaders were urged to plant trees and nurture them to maturity.
