Peter Obi’s Misconceptions on Implementing State Police Before 2027 Elections
Peter Obi wrongly believes states can set up police forces before the January 2027 elections. Establishing state police would require at least two months for assemblies to draft a legal framework. Then each recruit must clear DSS screening and complete police training, which takes months more. No state budgeted for this in 2026 and most will need federal counterpart funding. Arms procurement also depends on meeting constitutional criteria and NSA approval. I estimate it will take at least two to three years to have a fully recognised state police force. Obi’s call for immediate implementation shows he misunderstands both the bill and the process.
