Dad’s ₦50m Contract Payout: Where Should We Invest?

My parents have been financially stable for ten years but can’t afford big luxuries. My dad is a doctor and a local politician, yet he’s never been wealthy. The state government just offered him ₦200m to finish a 20-year-old abandoned contract. After costs and fees, he’ll take home about ₦50–60m. We want to invest at least half of that safely and grow it over time. Options on the table include a suspicious fixed-deposit scheme, buying or developing land in our undeveloped hometown, reinvesting in his struggling clinic, upgrading his 2009 Camry, or supporting my plan to move abroad. Where should we put this money to work?

What investment vehicle would you suggest for a ₦50m payout when balancing risk and long-term stability?

That 50m will serve well if split between government bonds, solid blue-chip stocks and a touch of real estate for stability.

I'm not convinced that property is the safest bet in our current market, especially with that amount.

It could help to diversify part of the funds into low-cost index funds while allocating a smaller portion to fixed deposits.
