TEKAN/ECWA Youths Demand Probe of Alleged Divisive Remarks by Sheikh Jingir

The TEKAN/ECWA Youth Fellowship has condemned remarks attributed to Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir in a viral video, describing them as divisive and capable of worsening religious tension in Nigeria. Speaking in Jalingo, the group’s national president, Bako Adashu Elijah, said Nigeria belongs equally to Muslims, Christians and every other citizen. He criticised public figures allegedly present when the remarks were made, saying officials should condemn religious intolerance rather than appear to endorse it. The group called on Sheikh Jingir to withdraw the alleged statement and apologise. It also urged the DSS and the police to investigate, warning that citizens may pursue lawful civic action if inflammatory religious rhetoric is left unchecked. It reaffirmed that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to practise their faith and participate in politics without being insulted, excluded or mobilised against because of religion.
