Social Media Commentator “Justice Crack” Granted ₦5m Bail

Social Media Commentator “Justice Crack” Granted ₦5m Bail

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to social media commentator Justice Chidiebere, known as “Justice Crack,” on ₦5,000,000 with one surety. He secured release through new counsel Sam Amadi, and the trial was adjourned to May 25. The judge ordered that the surety be a federal civil servant at Grade Level 15 or above with at least three months’ payslips, a letter of authentication from their department head, proof of four years’ residence via tenancy agreement or Certificate of Occupancy, an affidavit of means, and a passport photograph. The defendant must also deposit his international passport with the court. DSS operative Oronto Douglas testified that the defendant posted unverified military images converted into videos on social media. Investigators conducted a forensic examination of his phone, extracting videos, chats and social media excerpts, and issued a certificate of compliance. Defense counsel objected to admitting a flash drive without the contents being played or described in court.

When you say bail terms, do you mean the amount set or the specific conditions attached?

It's curious that the court set bail at ₦5m despite serious charges and only one surety requirement.

I'm not convinced the new counsel's involvement alone explains this sudden favorable bail ruling.

Anyone considering legal reform should review bail guidelines to ensure fair conditions and avoid inconsistent practices across federal courts.
