Forensic Report Debunks Fake X Account Impersonating INEC Chairman
Independent cybersecurity experts have confirmed that a purported personal X account for INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan is fake. The forensic review used X platform data, internet archive records, OSINT tools and cross-platform analysis to prove no link exists between the disputed handle and the Chairman’s verified contacts. Key findings reveal that the alleged reply “Victory is sure” was timestamped 13 minutes before the original tweet, making it impossible. There is no historical record of the account before April 2026, no connection to Prof. Amupitan’s email or phone, and the handle was later renamed and set to private as a parody. At least seven other fake profiles were traced across Facebook and Instagram. The independent report has been forwarded to law enforcement under the Cybercrimes Act. Media organisations are urged to verify digital content before publishing and to rely on INEC’s official channels for accurate statements.
