Mother and 14-Year-Old Daughter Killed as Building Collapses in Anambra
A mother and her 14-year-old daughter were killed after a three-storey building under construction collapsed at Anata Anaba in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Wednesday night. The building reportedly collapsed onto a neighbouring bungalow where the victims were indoors. Other people trapped in the rubble were rescued and taken to hospital by emergency responders. Residents said they had raised concerns about the project because of the waterlogged ground. The Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development said the structure was illegal, had received a stop-work notice, and was built with substandard materials. Authorities have begun investigating other unapproved buildings in the area.
