DWI Applauds ICPC’s Swift Action in El-Rufa’i Corruption Case

The Democracy Watch Initiative has praised the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission for its prompt investigation and arraignment of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i. Federal charges, including conversion of public property and money laundering, were filed under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026. The arraignment is scheduled this week at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. Tunji Bamidele, DWI’s Director of Strategic Communication, highlighted the ICPC’s commitment to the rule of law. He noted that parallel state-level proceedings (KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26) address abuse of office and fraud. Both filings on March 18, 2026, show a thorough approach to combating corruption at all levels. Bamidele emphasized the importance of fairness and transparency throughout the proceedings. He urged civil society, the media, and the public to stay engaged as the case unfolds. The Democracy Watch Initiative reaffirmed its dedication to promoting accountability, good governance, and integrity in Nigeria.

I agree ICPC's speed is impressive, but na too small step to ensure every official faces justice consistently.

The quick arraignment looks promising, but past high-profile probes have sometimes fizzled before delivering any real justice or lasting reforms.

It might feel good to cheer this arrest, but true accountability depends on transparent trials and actual conviction, not just headlines.

Citizens should track each hearing date through public court schedules and urge the ICPC to publish regular updates on case progress.
