Jay-Jay Okocha Says Friendship With NFF President Makes Criticism Difficult

Jay-Jay Okocha Says Friendship With NFF President Makes Criticism Difficult — 1 of 5

Super Eagles legend Jay-Jay Okocha says personal relationships and fear of backlash make it difficult for some former players to openly criticise the Nigeria Football Federation. Speaking on John Mikel Obi’s podcast, Okocha praised Mikel for speaking out and said that living in Nigeria changes the stakes. He noted that his friendship with the NFF president can make public criticism uncomfortable. Okocha also said Nigeria’s struggles in major competitions affect former internationals, who are often asked why a country with so much talent continues to fall short. He recalled a World Cup qualifier from his playing days that was moved to Kano, arguing that the decision made things harder for players arriving from Europe.
