ACF Tells Tinubu: Nigerians Resort to Self-Help Amid Worsening Insecurity
Prof Tukur Mohammed-Baba of the Arewa Consultative Forum warns that, despite government claims, insecurity is worsening across Nigeria. He says bandits and terrorists now control vast rural areas. Communities face levies, farm abandonments and rampant kidnappings. Many citizens are forced to protect themselves since they can no longer rely on state security. Noting recent events in Oyo and Borno, he highlights plans to deploy forest guards to seven states. Yet research shows over 30,000 militants operating unchecked in Sokoto, Katsina and Zamfara. He also raises alarm over education. More children are out of school and remaining facilities are in poor condition. Even in urban centres, attacks on students and teachers disrupt learning.
