Super Falcons Players Devastated After WAFCON Exit, Says Uchenna Kanu

Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu says several players struggled to eat after Nigeria’s 1-0 WAFCON quarter-final defeat to Cameroon in Casablanca. Kanu said the squad was devastated after Myriam Nyadjou’s 19th-minute goal ended Nigeria’s title defence and handed Cameroon automatic qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. She said she and her teammates cried after the match and felt they had failed to meet Nigerians’ expectations. The Cruz Azul forward believed the Falcons gave their best performance of the tournament, but said poor officiating and the pitch conditions affected the game. Nigeria must now beat South Africa to progress to FIFA’s intercontinental playoff tournament and keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
