‘No One Is Ahead of Us’: Yamal Dismisses France as Favourites, Vows to Win World Cup

‘No One Is Ahead of Us’: Yamal Dismisses France as Favourites, Vows to Win World Cup — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal insists Spain can claim the 2026 World Cup and that France are not superior. Speaking in a recent interview with a Spanish radio show, the 18-year-old pointed to Spain’s Euro 2024 victory over Les Bleus as proof that France are beatable. “There’s no team that’s impossible to beat,” he said. “France is not better than us. No one is ahead of us.” Yamal’s focus now shifts to Spain’s Round of 32 clash with Austria. He believes the squad will only improve under knockout pressure. “People say we can play better, but we’re calm. We have to win first, then we’ll raise our level.” With confidence sky-high, the winger added, “When a competition arrives, I think I’m going to win. It’s what I have in mind now.”

Is there any historical precedent showing a Euro champion maintaining that level and actually winning a subsequent World Cup under the same coach?

It's impressive for an 18-year-old to back Spain as contenders, but France has depth and experience to challenge any team.

Spain should focus on squad balance and tactical flexibility to handle France's strengths when the 2026 tournament arrives.
