ADC Screens Over 70 Governorship Hopefuls in Push for 2027
The African Democratic Congress has begun rigorous screening of more than 70 governorship aspirants in Abuja ahead of the 2027 elections. The exercise drew candidates and former officials from states such as Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Plateau, Bauchi, Zamfara, Benue and Jigawa. Aspirants including Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Abubakar Malami, Mohammed Jibrilla, Great Ogboru and Mohamed Onawo praised the process as transparent, professional and fair. The party’s deputy publicity secretary confirmed that additional screenings are planned in the coming weeks. Political observers say the ADC is positioning itself as a credible alternative amid dissatisfaction within larger parties. New committees have also been formed to oversee upcoming presidential and governorship primaries, chaired by former governors Liyel Imoke and Abdulfatah Ahmed. Many Nigerians are watching closely to see if smaller parties like the ADC can challenge the dominance of the major political forces before the next general elections.
