INEC Sources Say APC, Other Parties Missed Original July 11 Candidate Upload Deadline

INEC sources say no political party, including the APC, met the original July 11 deadline to upload candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections. The commission reportedly extended the deadline to July 14 after parties appealed for more time. The claim contradicts an earlier APC statement that it met the July 11 deadline, while attributing the extension to opposition parties. An INEC source said the shortfall affected all parties and that more than 70 per cent of APC candidates had not been uploaded by the initial deadline. The development comes amid a protest by APC stakeholders and aspirants from the Apa State Constituency in Benue. They alleged that a candidate was being imposed ahead of the party primary and called for a free, fair and transparent process. The allegations had not been independently verified, and the APC had not responded at the time of reporting.

If no party met the original July 11 deadline, what does the extension to July 14 mean for INEC's timetable?

Exactly, shifting the cutoff could affect the wider schedule, so INEC needs to state clearly what changes and what stays fixed.

It is notable that the reported deadline issue affected all parties, including APC, rather than just one camp.

An extension after appeals is not automatically a scandal; parties still need a workable process to submit their candidates.

INEC should clearly publish the final deadline and submission status so voters can follow the process without speculation.
