Ogun Waste Authority Seals Auto Plant Over Illegal Waste Burning

Ogun Waste Authority Seals Auto Plant Over Illegal Waste Burning

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority has shut down Carry Heavy Industry Limited in Moloko-Asipa near Abeokuta. The company flouted Section 2b(a) of state environmental law by burning waste on site. Farouk Akintunde, Special Adviser on Waste Management and OGWAMA Managing Director, said repeated warnings went unheeded. He warned that toxic emissions from open burning pose serious health risks to workers and nearby residents. The plant will remain sealed until it registers with an accredited private waste operator for proper disposal. OGWAMA also sanctioned Camellin Industry Limited along the Sagamu Interchange for the same offence and has invited its management for enforcement talks.
