1,220 Disengaged Kwara Teachers Appeal to AbdulRazaq for Reinstatement
About 1,220 teachers disengaged by the Kwara State Government have appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to reinstate them. The teachers, operating as Sunset Teachers, said they were recruited in January 2019. They said 2,214 teachers employed that year were later disengaged, although some have since been recalled. At a news conference in Ilorin, the group said affected teachers reapplied after meeting with the governor, but many are still waiting for reinstatement. They said prolonged unemployment has made it difficult for members to support their parents, children and other dependants. The group urged the state government to reconsider their case, arguing that recalling them would restore livelihoods and strengthen the education sector.
