Customs Auctions ₦26.5M of Seized Petrol and Palm Oil in Oron

The Eastern Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service held a public auction for 14,720 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 14,925 litres of various palm and vegetable oils. The exercise took place on July 16, 2026, at the Oron Outstation in Akwa Ibom State. The combined duty paid value of the items was ₦26,534,830. The acting comptroller praised officers for successful anti-smuggling operations. He emphasised that the transparent disposal of seized goods under the NCS Act deters economic crimes and protects national revenue.

Totally agree, making bid records public and having independent watchers will keep bidding clean.

It seems odd that 14,720 litres of petrol and nearly 15,000 litres of vegetable oils were sold in one go without full public oversight.

I'm not convinced the auction prices reflect real market value, maybe buyers with connections got special deals here.
