I am not saying every Nigerian woman is like this, but this growing expectation worries me. Before I travelled abroad, my girlfriend did not demand much. I genuinely planned to marry her and even went for her introduction. Less than a year after I left Nigeria, however, nearly every conversation became about money. I was a student but still sent her ₦150,000 monthly. She also worked, yet she expected me to buy marriage clothes costing more than ₦3 million. I eventually ended the marriage plans because I no longer recognised the person I thought I knew. I later asked out an old friend, hoping things would be different, but the same money demands started. Men abroad, have you experienced this?
