Ex-Real Salt Lake Goalkeeper Sues for $100M, Alleging Sexual Harassment as a Teen
Jeff Dewsnup, the youngest player ever signed by Real Salt Lake, has filed a $100 million lawsuit. He claims adult teammates bullied and sexually harassed him when he was 17 in the United Soccer League. The suit names Real Salt Lake, Major League Soccer, the US Soccer Federation and several staff members and players. He alleges teammates ridiculed his body, exposed him to adult genitalia and struck him with soccer balls in the locker room. Dewsnup says no special protections were in place despite his minor status. He reports anxiety, long waits to shower and pressure to train while injured. The complaint also cites a 2022 suicide attempt and his retirement at 18. His suit seeks $20 million for medical and therapy expenses and $80 million for lost wages and endorsements. The case highlights concerns over child welfare safeguards in professional sports.
