My First-Time PVC Registration: Costs, Delays and Tips from Bwari

My First-Time PVC Registration: Costs, Delays and Tips from Bwari

I never thought my vote mattered until now. After 28 years of staying home on election day, I finally went to register for my PVC in Bwari, Abuja. The trip cost me ₦2,400 each way to the INEC office opposite the Federal High Court. A bike ride from the drop-off point to the office added ₦200. On Friday, June 5, I waited from 7:00am until 3:30pm but couldn’t register because there was only one BVAS machine and no network. I left with a serial number slip feeling frustrated and hungry. I returned on Monday, June 8, spending another ₦4,800. Two BVAS machines were working. I arrived at 6:00am, and staff began at 8:48am. I pre-registered online on my phone, then did thumbprints and smile-for-the-camera face capture despite slow network. A final slip and ink thumbprint on paper completed the process. It was tiring but worth it. Keep patient and don’t give up.

Spending ₦2,400 each way seems steep for a routine civic duty. Abuja transport costs are really eating into voters' time and money.

I didn't realize each trip for PVC registration cost that much. It must really discourage people.

I get that registration costs add up, but isn't a small fee better than unlisted voters on election day?

Carry extra cash for transport delays and always confirm INEC office hours before your trip to avoid wasted journeys in Bwari.
