Lagos Marine Police Rescue 23-Year-Old Man After Third Mainland Bridge Jump
At around 10:30am on June 8, 2026, the Lagos State Marine Police Unit responded to reports of a young man jumping from Third Mainland Bridge into the lagoon. With help from local fishermen, officers pulled the 23-year-old painter to safety. The rescued man, who travelled from Ibadan without informing anyone, said poverty and hopelessness drove his attempt. He lost his phone in the water and remains in police custody while officers try to reach his family. A Lagos State Police spokesperson confirmed this is the second rescue from the lagoon in three months. Authorities urge community leaders, boat operators and fishermen in riverine areas to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly to help prevent further tragedies.
