Bonfrère Backs Mbappé and Dembélé to Lead France to 2026 Final
Former Nigeria coach Johannes Bonfrère believes France’s individual stars will carry Les Bleus to the World Cup 2026 final. Speaking from his home in the Netherlands, he praised Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé for their match-winning qualities. Bonfrère predicted a potential final showdown between France and either Spain or Argentina. He highlighted that Spain’s unity and Argentina’s cohesion will make for a strong contest, but he expects France’s star power to be decisive. Reflecting on his tenure with the Super Eagles, Bonfrère recalled building a collective side that won Nigeria’s 1996 Olympic gold and reached the 2000 AFCON final. He urged Africa to look to Morocco and Egypt as models, noting both have reached the World Cup Round of 16 and can still go further. He remains optimistic about African representation and stressed that teamwork complemented individual talent during his golden era with Nigeria.
