I Forgave My Cheating Boyfriend, Then He Left Because I Took Him Back

I Forgave My Cheating Boyfriend, Then He Left Because I Took Him Back — 1 of 2
1 / 2

After nearly two years together, I discovered that my boyfriend was seeing another woman. He admitted to cheating, apologised and promised to change, so I chose to forgive him and try to rebuild our relationship. For a while, he became more attentive and reassuring. But when I later raised concerns that he was becoming distant again, he ended the relationship. He said my willingness to forgive him so quickly made him question my self-esteem and whether I would stand up for myself in future. The breakup left me hurt and confused, but it also forced me to reflect on self-worth, boundaries and trust. I am rebuilding my confidence through positive affirmations, keeping promises to myself and maintaining a regular gym routine. I still believe in love, but I will be more protective of my heart going forward.

What do you think made him leave after asking for forgiveness and getting another chance? That switch must have been deeply confusing.

Did he ever explain why he wanted another chance if he was still considering leaving?

Forgiving someone after betrayal is already hard work, especially when you were trying to rebuild trust and he seemed more attentive.

His leaving does not mean taking him back was a mistake. You made the best decision you could with the apology and promises you received.

Try to separate his choices from your worth. Lean on trusted people, keep your boundaries clear, and give yourself room to process the breakup.
