Rangers’ CAF Exit Shows Nigerian Clubs Need Better Funding and Facilities — Olanrewaju
Rivers United assistant coach Yemi Olanrewaju says Nigerian clubs cannot consistently compete with leading African sides without major improvements in funding, facilities and overall organisation. He spoke after Enugu Rangers lost 3-0 to MC Alger in Algeria, surrendering a two-goal first-leg advantage to exit the CAF Champions League 3-2 on aggregate. Rangers conceded all three goals in the second half, including a late winner. Drawing on his continental experience with Enyimba and Rivers United, Olanrewaju said the gap between Nigerian clubs and teams from Algeria, Morocco, Egypt and South Africa extends beyond tactics. He pointed to weaker budgets, poor infrastructure and difficult travel arrangements as major disadvantages for NPFL representatives.
