Ghana Police Detain Eight Nigerians in Upper East Region Anti-Drug Operation

The Ghana Police Service arrested 74 suspects in two intelligence-led operations in the Upper East Region. On May 20 at Paga near the Burkina Faso border, 40 people were held, including eight Nigerians, six Burkinabés, one Malian, one Togolese and 23 Ghanaians. Officers seized parcels and sacks of suspected narcotics and five motorbikes believed to be used for distribution. A second sweep on May 22 targeted hotspots in Navrongo Municipality, leading to 34 arrests and the recovery of 11 motorbikes, narcotics and foreign cigarettes. Sixteen of the suspects were remanded by High Court Two and are due back on June 4, 2026. The remaining 22 are being profiled for further action. All remain in custody as investigations continue.
