Nigeria’s Mbah and Bawa Win African Beach Volleyball Title, Secure LA 2028 Olympic Spot

Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa have reportedly made history by qualifying Nigeria for the women’s beach volleyball event at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The pair won the 2026 African Beach Volleyball Championship in Alexandria, Egypt, defeating Morocco’s Alexandria Erhart and Mahassine Darrhar 21-18, 21-10 in the final at Abu Heif Beach. The victory is Nigeria’s first reported Olympic qualification in volleyball. It also avenged Mbah and Bawa’s earlier group-stage defeat to the Moroccan pair and ended Nigeria’s previous near misses at the continental championship.
