How Ole moved from Hero to Zero By Soibi-Versatile Manchester United have confirmed the sacking of manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer with immediate effect. The former Manchester United striker was relieved of his duties as manager today after a series of bad results. United lost 5 of their last 7 league games. The 4-1 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road was the final nail on the coffin for the Norwegian. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was Jose Mourinho's successor after the Portuguese was fired from the club in December 2018. Mourinho went on a winless run and his loss to Liverpool at Anfield triggered the gun in Ed Woodward's hands. Solksjaer who was brought in on interim basis after Mourinho created a distorted and disunited dressing room with the likes of Paul Pogba having conflicts with the manager and some of his teammates. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer famous for his heroics in the 1999 treble winning campaign for his winning goal against Bayern Munich in the final of the Uefa Champions league after scoring in extra time coming from the bench. Solksjaer ended his United reign because of a career threatening knee injury but had 126 goals to his name during his 11 year spell at the club dating August 1996-August 2007. Solksjaer first 12 games were fabulous after beginning with a 5-1 drubbing of his former club Cardiff. It was the first time United had scored 5 in the Premier league since the Sir Alex Ferguson days. United went on to win 11 more games and most notably overturning a 2-0 first leg loss at Old Trafford to Paris St Germain. Manchester United board had a change of heart about keeping Ole Gunnar Solksjaer on Interim basis and immediately handed him a 3 year deal, a decision that was later proved to be impromptu as United lost 8 out of 12 games and finished the season in 6th. The following season saw the sale of Romelu Lukaku and the arrival of Harry McGuire. United began their league campaign by beating Frank Lampard's Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford. Results went bad afterwards but with the signing of Portuguese sensation Bruno Fernandez in the January window from Sporting Lisbon for over £55m the dice was rolled in favor of the manager as results turned for good enabling the club to clich third place on the last day of the season after beating Leicester City at Old Trafford. Also Manchester United reached the semi final of the FA Cup. United strengthened in attack signing Edinson Cavani for free and the likes of Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo but suffered a slow start to the campaign loosing 6-1 to Spurs. United were tempted to pull the plug on his time with Mauricio Pochentino unemployed after his dismissal from Spurs a year earlier. However the club kept on and they reached the league Cup semi finals loosing to City and then lost the Europa League final to Villarreal. United fans have been skeptical about their manager and his capacity to win them titles. However they hoped with the summer arrival of three great additions, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to the club after 12 years made the fans dreaming again. However two of the three signings have not lived up to expectations with Raphael Varane getting injured twice and Jadon Sancho registering no goal or assist so far this season. However Cristiano Ronaldo has had 9 goals and 2 assists in 13 games. In the Champions league United have their hopes alive thanks to him. How Did Things Go Bad for Ole. Manchester United began showing signs of falling apart right from the full time appointment of the manager in March 2019. But the signing of Bruno Fernandez had covered the cracks. United fans have been worried if he can match the likes of Tuchel, Pep and Klopp in tactical smartness. Ole's biggest failing was his inability to find a defensive solution to the teams porous defense. His refusal to keep Harry McGuire and Shaw on the bench even when it was clear they were culprits of horrible defensive displays. The decision to marginalise Jesse Lingard and Donny Van De Beek was also fatal as they will have done better for the team. It's really a sad situation to see a clubs legend go in such a bad way but I feel Solksjaer was his own undoing. His second position finish and Europa League final reach is nothing because it was similar to what Jose Mourinho achieved in the season before he was booted out, reaching the FA Cup final and finishing 2nd in the league. Moyes, LVG and Jose Mourinho all deserved their sacking for not living up to the situation so does Solksjaer. But Ole can also count himself fortunate of all of them as he was given every sort of support. Despite the trashing by Liverpool at Old Trafford and the loss to City he was being backed to lead the club still. The loss to Watford was just unacceptable and Ole must accept his era has come to an end but unfortunately for a man who was once a hero and now ending a zero.
