Halima Nwakaego Reflects on Divorce, Single Parenting and Finding Love Again
Halima Nwakaego, former wife of Bashir El-Rufai, has shared her experience of life after their divorce, including single parenting, running her businesses, heartbreak and living with ADHD. The couple married in 2020 and welcomed twin boys in 2021. Their marriage ended in July 2024, when their sons were two years old. Bashir had previously announced the separation publicly and later apologised for how he handled the announcement. In a recent personal essay, Halima said she entered the marriage with doubts about its future. She also reflected on falling in love again after the divorce, only for that relationship to end in heartbreak. Despite her scepticism about men, she said she still believes deeply in love.
