FIFA Slaps Swiss Franc 150,000 Fine on Israeli FA Over Racism Failures
FIFA’s disciplinary committee has fined the Israeli Football Association 150,000 Swiss francs for failing to curb racist incidents in domestic football. The sanction follows a 2024 complaint from the Palestine Football Association and an investigation into repeated racist chants by Beitar Jerusalem supporters. FIFA criticised the IFA for issuing weak penalties and not condemning hate speech. The IFA must now display anti-discrimination banners at its next three home fixtures and dedicate a third of the fine to anti-racism initiatives. The committee also noted the lack of public statements against political and militaristic messages in the league. In response, the IFA said it has acted behind the scenes and will step up visible efforts. FIFA also deferred a decision on West Bank–based clubs due to legal complexities under international law.
