Odegbami Calls for NFF Election Suspension, Cites Deep Problems in Nigerian Football — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Former Super Eagles captain Segun Odegbami has called for the temporary suspension of the Nigerian Football Federation’s 2026 executive committee elections, scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State. Odegbami said football administration has failed to match Nigeria’s wealth of talent and has been held back by structural decisions dating back to the early 1990s. He argued that the system has become difficult to reform because some of its beneficiaries remain involved in its administration. He also described NFF elections as a recurring source of crisis and said poor governance has stopped football from reaching its potential as an economic and youth-empowerment tool. Odegbami urged stakeholders to pause the process and address the underlying problems before proceeding with the election.
