EFCC Arraigns 'Native Doctor' Couple for ₦1.1bn Contract Scam

EFCC Arraigns 'Native Doctor' Couple for ₦1.1bn Contract Scam

The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC has arraigned a self-styled native doctor, Olorunbukunmi Taiwo, and his wife, Awolegan Omotola, before the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti over an alleged ₦1,098,961,500 contract fraud. They are charged with obtaining money by false pretence and retention of proceeds of crime. A widow from Delta State told investigators she paid nearly ₦2bn into the couple’s account for a road construction contract she believed was awarded by a federal agency. EFCC investigations revealed the proceeds were used to buy two properties in Ado-Ekiti: Town Tavern Lounge on Ikere Road and a four-bedroom bungalow in Irewolede Estate. The commission secured interim attachment of both assets on May 25, 2026. The defendants pleaded not guilty. The court has fixed June 11, 2026, for their bail hearing and the start of the trial. They will remain in EFCC custody until then.

It's interesting how these high-value contract frauds often involve supposed experts with impressive titles but questionable track records.

Always verify credentials and project approvals thoroughly before awarding large contracts to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
