FG Approves Historic Civilian-led NYSC Overhaul with 11 Skill-focused Streams
The Federal Executive Council has approved the first overhaul of the National Youth Service Corps in its 53-year history. The reform places civilian leadership at the helm while retaining military support for security. The Attorney-General and Ministry of Youth will amend the NYSC Act for immediate implementation. This framework introduces 11 core streams—from Agric, Medical and Education Corps to Tech & Digital, Creative Economy and Enterprise. The three-phase orientation camp now covers civic duties, career mapping, finance access and stream-specific skills training. Officials say the shift aims to empower graduates with practical skills that support the government’s $1 trillion economy ambition. The reform marks a transition to a productivity-driven institution focused on human capital development.
