1 / 3

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has admitted he’d prefer not to see Cristiano Ronaldo take the field in their World Cup last-16 match against Portugal. The former Athletic Bilbao coach praised the 41-year-old superstar’s character and game-deciding quality. Ronaldo has already scored three goals at the tournament, including a penalty in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Croatia. Speaking at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, de la Fuente warned his side must bring their best performance to contain the Al Nassr forward. He emphasised that there is no room for complacency against one of football’s greatest ever players.

Spain should focus on tactical drills to neutralize Ronaldo's runs rather than hope he won't play in the round of sixteen.
